Real-time baggage tracking with improved customer experience

By integrating innovative tracking solutions throughout operations, the aviation industry can generate massive costs while reducing mishandling rates.

Using RFID enabled luggage tags can guarantee the correct identification of bags and helps achieve Resolution 753 compliance without the costs and errors associated with hand-held scanning.

RFID technology for bag tracking

In 2018, IATA Resolution 753 on baggage tracking made it mandatory for members to track baggage at four key points throughout the journey; check-in, load, transfer and arrival. IATA recommended the use of RFID technology as it is recognised as the most reliable, mature and widespread available tracking solution.

Much more reliable than a barcode, RFID can achieve a read rate of 99-100%, ensuring accurate bag tracking, a reduction in baggage mishandling, an increase in operational efficiency along with improved customer experience.

RFID vs Barcode

Baggage identification via a barcode in the sorting facility, in the container or in the aircraft is only possible if the barcode is visible and undamaged. Unfortunately, tags can occasionally get damaged through wear and tear, in particular during transfers from one flight to another, and become less readable.

RFID baggage tags not only feature printed barcodes, but also integrated RFID chips for the storage of passenger data.

Using radio waves, the RFID chip can be detected by 99.9 % of all reading devices. Due to the guaranteed detection, misdirection and reloading processes are reduced. This ensures that baggage arrives punctually and at the correct destination.

Combining bag tag and RFID expertise

Security Label benefits from the RFID expertise of Paragon ID, a leader in its field, to provide RFID bag tags that are ARC approved and comply with resolution 753.

The RAIN RFID inlay integrated within our RFID bag tag, the Voyager 7834, has received ARC approval for specification U, ensuring its compatibility with the highest performance requirements.

Our RFID bag tag is already used by leading airlines across Europe and the US.
