The stored data is read out from the data carrier via radio waves (RFID = “radio-frequency identification”) and also through packaging and foil wrapping without extra alignment of the reading unit.
This makes the reading process quick (information exchange in real-time) and also highly reliable, with an error rate of less than 0.1%. The RFID tags / RFID labels are as data carriers far more resistant to extreme environmental influences and can also be mounted in more protected areas (e.g. inside the packaging).
However, they are also substantially more powerful. The chip can hold far more information than a print product. The RFID tag/label can therefore be used for protected pallet identification and for overall group recording for several articles simultaneously (bulk processing).
